Really Big Day

Image found here.
Today my family grew by one whole four year old person.

My son Joe adopted his step-daughter.  He's pretty much the only father she has known and has been calling him Daddy ever since she could say the word.

So today it happened.  We all went to court and the papers were signed, an adoption certificate turned over, which means I am officially a grandmother.

I may never ever forgive my son for making me old enough to be a grandmother.

  1. Oh I'm sure you'll forgive him once that cute litte face says "I love you grandma" :)

    1. She'll never say that to me. But she does say, "I love you, Gigi." She loves me very much. She thinks I'm awesome.

    1. And an exhausting one too. I posted this and lay down. I didn't want to take a nap but it was very tempting.

  3. Congratulations, Satia. Forgive your son. :-)
I became a grandmother last year, much to my surprise. My granddaughter, Camille, is amazing. She'll turn one year old on May 14. My son has embraced the father role in a way I hadn't expected - he's really, really good at it.
I'm still not wild about being called a grandma, but I've decided that's okay. I'm going to redefine the role!

    1. OMW, I put in a bid early and Bibi calls me Gigi. My mother complained, "Why did I get stuck with 'Grandma' and you get to be called 'Gigi'?" Because I was pre-emptive. Muahahahaha!

    1. As well as well can be. And tomorrow my mother meets her great-granddaughter for the first time. And my daughter-in-law meets my mother and my step-father for the first time. Poor thing, she's probably terrified. My step-father can be intimidating.

  6. Well, I wasn't terrified til I read this. At least I'm prepared now : ) I'm just kidding, I'm looking forward to it but I am quite nervous.

And I am so glad you all came, even if it was boring and tiring, it meant a lot to me that you were all there with us for this. I've shared some pictures on facebook if you haven't seen them already.

    1. My mother is already prepared to adore you. My step-father intimidates everyone when they meet him--not because he's mean or anything. Just that he's . . . well, intimidating. But Bibi will charm him. Plus, my mother's dog will be there being so cute too. Between Bibi and the puppy, it will be a wonderful visit.
