To Block Animated .gifs on Google+

If you have a condition that makes animated gifs problematic, Here is all you need to do.

1)  Use Chrome as your web browser.  (If you don't, see below!)  If you are already using Chrome, good on ya.  Let's move on.

2)  Now you want to add AdBlock to your browser. It's safe.  (And if you can afford to give the developer a little thank you donation, please do so.  I haven't been able to because I am unemployed but will when I have a steady income again.)

Extension3)  Once you have AdBlock installed click on the little you will click on the little STOP hand in your frame (upper right) and choose Options in the menu.

4)  Now go to the Customize tab.

5)  In the Manually edit your filters field, after you click Edit simply input this:

*.gif$domain=plus.google.com

6)  Be sure to thank the developer by rating the app and/or making a donation.  (Also, see the people below and thank them, if you have the time)

Once you have done this, you should no longer have any problems with gifs on google+ and you can obviously use this to block other websites where you may find a lot of these things.

Many thanks to Jari Huomo, Martin Shervington, and Jaana Nyström.  Your assistance is appreciated and invaluable.

From Thomas Jones:

It's a problem unique to WebKit-based browsers (like Chrome) that they don't support hitting the Escape  key to pause animations. For Firefox, in addition to the key trick, you can go into the preferences editor and set the value of image.animation_mode to "none". This way, you can still see GIF files, but they won't animate.
